Passion 1: The Worlds We Create

Writing is a passion, a medicine, and an escape. Writing is a journey through someone’s mind, brain, and aspirations. With writing, someone can decide to show the world who they are, or disguise themself.
I write to hide behind wordy curtains. I create characters and worlds to escape reality. I write fiction.
This section is where, despite my best efforts to hide, you will get to know me, inside and out. It is where you decide if my mind intrigues you or not.

Get to know me through my short stories.

The main reason why it’s taking me many years to finish a novel is not only because I am a perfectionist, but also, because of a crippling fear that I am not good enough. That I am not capable of writing something others would love to read. That I will get laughs instead of praises.

With time, I came to understand that confidence and strength comes from within, from me alone. I’m still working towards my confidence utopia, and while I made progress, the need for others’ approval lingers, but I have succeeded at decreasing the weight I grant it. As a matter of fact, I’ve gained sufficient courage at this point to enter competitions. I am grateful for all the constructive feedback I receive every competition, and I want to store these stories here, on this blog, to one day see the progress I have made. Therefore, the stories I put forward on this page are the submitted original versions, untouched.

Get to know yourself through Writing Retreats, Exercises & Methods

A writing retreat is a day or multiple days dedicated to writing, away from distractions. It typically includes multiple inspirational activities, writing exercises, and moments of free writing.

However, paid or organized writing retreats are not always accessible. Here you can find proposed agendas for DIY retreats to do in a familiar place.

Sometimes the easiest (and hardest) thing to do is to allow you one day to write, especially if writing isn’t your full time job (yet). An entire day to focus on creating or developing stories can seem equally long and short: long, when so much is going on in your busy schedule, and short enough, that effective writing becomes essential.

This is why planning is important, below is a free retreat agenda built to guide you in organizing your 1-day-retreat. You can use the entire agenda if you wish, or only use the pieces you find most relevant. It’s up to you. It only exists here for you, to help you invest the time your writing (and you) deserve.

-> Focus: Improve on what has already been written
  1. Show Don’t Tell
  2. Slice of Life

A few days ago, I had the opportunity to participate in an online workshop about the Art of Microfiction, offered by WestWord in partnership with Writing Battle. It was lead by Autumn Bettinger and I found it quite interesting. Therefore, it seemed like a good idea to share my notes on the topic.

Because my writing and I are a work in progress, and because I lack the time or the resources to chase a degree in creative writing, I have made it my personal quest to better my writing. And as I grow as a writer, I wish to share my experiences with others who may be undertaking the same quest.

If I can help anyone in any way progress through this beautiful – and sometimes painful – journey, I will gladly do so.
