In a nutshell, this competition, as its name so clearly states, follows a battle format. The participants are given three prompts: a genre, an item, and a type of character. They must write their stories in that genre and must include the element and the type of character. Then, based on the number of words required, the participants have a rather short period of time to draft their story and publish it to the website. Then, each participant will read 10 stories from fellow competitors, 2 at a time, and pick their favorite of the 2 after providing mandatory feedback – battle style. A participant becomes a finalist if 7 out of the 10 participants who read their story has chosen the participant’s story as the best of the 2. Cash prizes are given to finalists, and those who just missed the shortlist (i.e. a score of 6) can get an honorable mention.
